Kaitaia Progressive Society Defines Policy

KAITAIA, Sat. (Sp.).—Acquisition and development of a suitable area of land for the benefit of the community will be the first objective of the recently-formed Kaitaia and District Progressive Society. This was decided at the initial executive meeting on Thursday night following a recommendation from the inaugural general meeting.

It was agred that in carrying on' this policy the society should work it close cooperation with other interest ed public organisations.

A sub-committee was appointed to locate an area suited to this purpose and report back to the next executive meting on August 11./ Members’ willingness to! accept the responsibility of financing a transaction of this nature was accepted as evidence of keenness and confidence in the new organisation. Preliminary proposals were that finance should be secured from a series of public entertainments of guaranteed attraction and novel interest. It was decided that the annual membership subscription should remain as fixed, by an earlier meeting, at 5/-. The committe was constituted as follows:

Messrs L. R. Hegloy. H. N. Freeman. A. P. Lane, C. B. McKinnon, D. Archibald Snr.. H. A. Timbers, A. V. Langman, J. T. Williams. J. Cowie, L. Williams, E. M. Clark, R. C. Williams, the chairman (Mr Theed) and the secretary (Mr A. G. Wilson), ex-officio.

At a meeting of the entertainment committee it was reported that entries for tonight’s talent quest had been more than could be accommodated on the programme and that bookings were heavy.
