Northern Wairoa Shield Team
The Northern Wairoa Rugby selector (Mr K. Robinson) has retained successful club combinations in choosing his representative team to Otamatea at Dargaville on Saturday in the second south zone Harding Shield match. Eight of the 15 players are from the Dargaville club, six from Old Boys and one from RuawaL A feature of the selection is the omission of two of last year’s Northland reps., J. Isaacs and C. Isaacs. J. Isaacs toured Fiji with the New Zealand Maori team. The team is regarded as a strong one, with all-round ability and speed in the backs. The XV is: Fullback, Fannon. threequarters, Berridge, Brown, Robinson; five-eighths, Bowmar, Kurtovich; half, Adolph; front row, Baume, Te Haara, I. Stanaway; second row, Simons, Jerkovich, Mudford, McLeod; back row, Wordley. Secondary School Games The ' first matches of the season between the first and second XV.s of the Whangarei Boys’ High School and Northland College are to be played at Rugby Park, Whangarei, tomorrow. The first XV.s of the two schools met three times last year, College scoring two wins and Whangarei High one. College won the only second XV. match played last season. The WBHS teams are: First XV.—J. Baker; M. Jones, D. Ingham, T. Hookham; M. Thomson, W. Dent; B. Foster; A. Rudolph, L. Menefy, J. Higgins; B. Harding, M. Maihi (captain), M. Andrews, L. Russell; H. Hughes. Reserves: Backs, B. Cahill, A. Bell; forward, A. Dickie. Second XV.—N. Reed; H. Jobe, R. Brown (captain), A. Rogers; J. Rawhiti, R. Johnston; H. Aitkenhead; J Cook, B. Christiansen, M. Stiffe; N. Doull, D. Grist, B. Smith, I. Smeaton; A. Brown. Reserves: Back. B. Fyfe; forwards, R. Maxwell, J. Cameron, E. McCabe, H. Fell The match between the second XV.s starts at 1 o’clock and that between the first XV.s at 2 o’clock.
