Chinese Premier’s ‘Fighting Cabinet’
CANTON, Mon. (11 a.m.)—Marshal Yep Hsi-shan took over as Premier today and at a brief Cabinet session, pledged to do “everything for victory.” Yen told the Cabinet that all efforts must be made to cooperate and support the men at the front. He added that, in order to secure victory, the Government must be competent, and officials must be above corruption. He urged mobilisation of all manpower and resources of the nation to accomplish the task of his “fighting Cabinet.” A Shanghai message reports that Chinese Nationalist warships are blockading Shanghai and refusing to permit shipping in or out. According to reports, warships are maintaining regular patrols across the mouth of the Yangtse. Radio stations in Shanghai may not criticise the People’s Government, People’s Liberation, Communism or the World Democratic Movement, according to regulations for registration of radio stations, published today. Without permission of the cultural and educational board of the Military Control Commission, stations may not present news commentaries, political speeches or political commentators. The first radio station to operate in Communist-controlled Shanghai will go on the air tonight with a musical programme.
