N-Z. Won't Be Stumped For Power
AUCKLAND, Tue. (P.A.). When the luncheon adjournment in the cricket test at Leeds was taken about 12.30 a.m. today. New Zealand time, the North Island electricity load dropped from 8000 kilowatts to about 4000. Allowing for the extra use of radios, electric lights, radiators and kettles it is obvious that tens of thousands of people must have been listening. However, consumption of power was about 2000 kilowatts below that on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Mr Ventry Smith, North Island load controller for the State Hydro Department said today that the extra usage was not embarrassing to the department. The load during the night was not heavy, and the power supply at present was sufficient to meet the extra demand.
