Ireland Bill Passed

LONDON, Tue. (1.30 p.m.) The House of Commons tonight passed the Ireland Bill, acknowledging the Republic of Ireland’s departure from the Commonwealth, but declaring that Northern Ireland shall remain part of King George’s Dominions unless its Parliament decided otherwise.

It also gives effect to the Government’s policy that the Republic of Ireland is not a foreign country, and that its citizens will enjoy the rights accorded to Dominion nationals by the British Nationality'Act.

The Opposition supported the Government. There was no vote on the third reading.
