58 Nations At Heel Cress Conference

STOCKHOLM, Sun.— The International Red Cross conference unanimously elected Count Bernadotte chairman.

It is the organisation’s first post-war meeting.

Five hundred delegates from 58 countries arc attending. The Czechoslovak Red Cross, explaining its refusal to take part, said it was impossible to believe in the aims of the organisers who declined to invite partisans and representatives of democratic women’s organisations, but were satisfied to meet representatives of Franco Spain. Czechoslovakia would continue to try to democratise the International Red Cross.

Rumania is not attending on the ground that by admitting the Spanish delegates, the Red Cross became the supporter of “warlike anti-democratic anti-humanitarian interests of imperialism.”

Russian delegates appeared unexpectedly at the conference ■ after the Soviet had declined an invitation to attend.
