Sydney Tramcars Collide Head-On

SYDNEY, Sat—When a heavilyloaded tramcar crashed into another almost head-on opposite the Sydney Showground yesterday, 35 men were injured. More than 100 men and women were hurled about the compartments amid showers of broken glass and debris. None of the women was hurt. Scrambling from the wreckage, uninjured passe’ngers assisted the victims from the smashed tramcars. Four ambulances ran a shuttle service to St Vincent’s Hospital, where 22 of the injured were taken. Thirteen others were given first-aid treatment on the soot. ~ THREE DERAILED A pair of trams coupled together ran across the points and crashed into a stationary special tramcar filled with * men going to the Randwick workshops. The three cars were derailed. Practically all the windows in them were smashed, woodwork and doors .were splintered and parts of the roofs caved in. ' Both drivers were lucky to escape death. One was thrown clear and the other was hurled through the glass window of his cabin. A man who was coupling another tramcar to the special one when it was hit escaped with minor injuries, although he was thrown under it.
