Polio Cases Continuing
AUCKLAND, Sat. (Sp.b—The Auckland Hospital now has 48 positive and two suspect cases oi infantile paralysis, following the admission of a further suspect case, a child aged 4, from Puni, near Pukekohe. Thirty-nine of the positive cases ; n the hospital arc over the crisis and are convalescing. A man aged 22 was admitted to the Tauranga Hospital yesterday as a positive case. Two more positive cases have occurred in South Auckland. They are a 17-year-old girl from Raglan and a woman aged 31 from Ngahinapouri. Figures for the Dominion do not give any indication of a marked slow-ing-tin in the* poliomyelitis rate due to the colder weather.
However, a slight improvement was noticeable last week compared with the previous two weeks. Fatal cases since the epidemic began have occurred as follows.—
Central Auckland, 10; South Auckland, G; Hawke’s Bay, 3; Northland and Taranaki, 2 each; Thames-Tau-ranga and Wairarapa, 1 each.
