No Grant Because Local Interest Lacking
Because of the lack of interest shown by the local bodies concerned, Ihe Minister of Works (Mr Semple) had not allowed a grant for the repair of the Taipuha-Waipu Road.
This information was received in the form of a letter from the Minister by Mr A. J. Murdoch, M.P. The letter stated:
“An inspection of the Taipuha-Waipu Road has been made by an engineer of the Whangarei Public Works Department, with a result that he has advised that no work had been done on the road for a considerable time. “The job of bringing the road up to the standard of other roads would be a costly one. “In view of the lack of interest shown by the local bodies concerned, and the number of roads further north needing metalling, there is no alternative but for the claim to be deferred for consideration at a later date.”
The Taipuha-Waipu Road links the Otamatea and Whangarei counties.
