Arabs And Jews In Snowball Battle
JERUSALEM, Tpe. (11 a.m.)—Pedestrians scattered for shelter today when Arabs opened a barrage with snowballs across the barbed wire separating the Arab and Jewish quarters of Jerusalem.
The Jews quickly- replied and groups of Roy-al Air Force men barracked during the half-hour snow battle. Driving snow cheeked the usual sporadic fighting in the city, where the snow is several inches deep, but British officials reported that snipers killed at least three Arabs and wounded two Jews in Tiberias. Unless security is restored in Palestine, implementation of the General Assembly’s resolution for partition will be impossible, says the United Nations Palestine Commission in a report to the Security Council on information received from the commission’s advance party in Jerusalem. CHAOS LIKELY “Present indications point to the inescapable conclusion.” the report states, “that when the mandate terminates Palestine is likely to suffer severely from administrative chaos and widespread strife and bloodshed.”
