PATRICK THE SCOTSMAN Today is St. Patrick’s Day, commemorating the apostle and patron saint of Ireland, Patrick the Scotsman. He was born at what is now Dumbarton, on the north bank of the River Clyde. As a boy he was captured and sold as a slave i.n Ireland. He converted wild Irish chiefs, and founded many churches, including the cathedral ’an?! monastery of Armagh. His grave is now covered with a massive slab of granite, for which Irishmen of every religion subscribed. CAT BURGLAR To quote an old truism, it is amazing what you see when you haven't got a gun. Citizens in Vine Street yesterday afternoon were caught unarmed when they were given an excellent opportunity of emulating the American gangster as a member of one of the Government departments crawled along a second storey parapet to burgle the departmental window. His colleagues had left the office early, leaving his coat and keys locked up. The burglar-proofing of the building was demonstrated as he gave a Houclini performance before his admiring audience and disappeared through a window.
