Manager Retiring

WELLINGTON, Tue. (P.A.L—Mr A. D. Bayfield will retire from the position of manager for New Zealand for the Federal Steam Navigation Co. on March 31 after nearly 42 years’ service with the company. He joined the staff on July 1, 1906, when the New Zealand and African Shipping Co., Ltd., represented the Federal Co. On March 1, 1934, he was appointed manager for New Zealand for the company. Mr Bayfield is well known throughout New Zealand as an administrator of sport. PROMINENT IN SPORT A champion oarsman in 1904. he has been a member of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association for some 40 years, and has been chairman for the last 10 years. He has also had a long connection with Rugby Union football and the N.Z. Olympic and British Empire Games Association. He has been chairman of the executive of the latter body for some years. Mr T. S. Marchington, D.S.C., R.D., R.N.R., assistant manager for New Zealand, will succeed Mr Bayfield in the senior position in the Federal Steam Navigation Company.
