Argentina Charging Needy Europe Exorbitant Prices
AMERICAN ACCUSATION
WASHINGTON, Fri. (11.30 a.m.).—The special House Foreign Aid Committee today accused Argentina of charging needy European nations exorbitant prices for grain. It demanded a firm United States trade policy toward the Argentine.
In a report on the extent to which Latin-America might participate in the European recovery programme, tha committee said: “The Argentine Government prides itself on its capacity for hard bargaining. “It has repeatedly indicated lack of
interest in sharing the task of working out a solution to Europe's economic problems.” The report added that the high prices paid to the Argentine have been “a major drain upon European resources, a drain which cannot properly be assumed by the United States Treasury.**
