BLENHEIM, Sat. (P.A.)—The powerful Picton-built boat Redhead, own- - ed by L. Southwood, of Evans Bay, Wellington, won the New Zealand open speedboat championship' on Picton Harbour this afternoon. She covered the course of "21 miles at an average of 65.5 miles per hour, a record for the race. The fastest lap was 67.5 m.p.h.
The holder of the title, Pelorus Jack (Picton) put up a game showing, but had to give way to thp newer vessel and superior power. The race was run in a gusty wind on a choppy sea.
