OBITUARY ... Mrs i. Wilson
The death has occurred in the Whangarei Hospital of Mrs Alice Mary Wilson, aged 73.
Mrs Wilson’s parents were the late Mr and Mrs G. Cliff, of Paparoa, who came to New Zealand in 1862 in the Matilda Wattenbach, and were among the first pioneers to settle in the district.
Fifty-one years ago she married Mr E. Wilson, also of Paparoa, and they stayefl in the district until coming to Whangarei in 1928. Mrs Wilson was an expert needlewoman, and was head steward of the needlework section of the Whangarei Winter Show for some years.
She travelled throughout the North judging exhibitions of sewing, and some of her own productions have never been surpassed in Northland. Mrs Wilson was also especially interested in children, and, while at Paparoa, she sponsored concerts for young people. During the war she was active in patriotic work in an unofficial capacity.
Mrs Wilson is survived by her husband and three children, Colin (Whangarei), Keith (Opua), and Donald (Whangarei). Another son (Stanley) died some years ago. There are nine grandchildren and three great-grand-children.
