High Cost Of Road Sealing In Towns
KAWAKAWA. Thu. (Sp.).—An estimate of £BOOO for one mile of tar-seal-ing in Kerikeri township was submitted by the PWD resident engineer (Mr L. May)) after consultations with the Eay of Islands County Council’s engineer (Mr S. B. Clifford). Mr Clifford reported to this effect at yesterday’s council meeting here. “This figure seems exceptionally high,” commented Mr Clifford. He was asked to bring down a detailed report for next month’s council meeting.
Cr A. R. Graham revived the prewar request for tar-sealing of 400 yards of the Okaihau-Horeke main highway, where it runs through the business section of Okaihau. He said the residents had told him they were prepared to find £2OO in cash towards this work. The matter was left in Cr Graham’s hands to consult further with the Okaihau Chamber of Commerce and interested residents.
