WANGANUI- A simple yet daring attempt at robbery was foiled in Marton early yesterday afternoon by the town clerk (Mr C. C. McDonald*. The Borough Council staff had gone to lunch and Mr McDonald, who had been temporarily engaged in the council room, moved into the adjoining public office, where sa\'b a man about to leave carrying a money-bag. He closed the door, locked it and went to summon the police. While he was away the intruder, who was a stranger to the town clerk, managed to escape, but left behind the bag, which was reported to contain about £SO. He has not yet been found bv the police.
