WELLINGTON, Fri. (Sp.).—The entire floor of the Chamber of the House of Representatives is being reqarpeted. This job will absorb over 450yds of Axminster carpet imported from England by the Legislative Department. The new carpet follows the traditional colour of deep red. with the usual pattern.
The replaced carpet has served since the House of Representatives was moved to the present chamber in 1919. Parts of it are still in good order, and will be used to replace other worn carpets throughout Parliament Buildings.
Attempts were made to obtain a new carpet from England some years ago, but the purchase was postponed because of the war.
