New Zealander Sole Witness Against Japs.
(N.Z. Public Relations Service.) TCKIC, Jan. 13—Evidence of the beating and abusing of American prisoners of war in a secret concentration camp at Ofuna, near Tokio, where Allied personnel were imprisoned, was given by Captain J. G. Godwin, of Blenheim, at Yokohama before the Eighth Army Military Commission. Accused was Masay Gshi Murata, a guard at the camp, who was found guilty and sentenced to four years' imprisonment. The incidents complained of took place between May and November, 1944. when Captain Godwin, then a lieutenant in the Fleet Air Arm. was a prisoner ot Ofuna.
Captain Godwin, who is now attached to the Australian War Crimes Commission, Tokio, was the sole witness.
