Settlement In Waterfront Dispute

WELLINGTON, Thu. (P.A.) A settlement of the waterfront dispute over the dismissal of more than 100 men on Tuesday evening has been reached, on the bringing down of a decision by the Waterfront Industry Commission, which discussed the ques l tion with representatives of the employers and the union. The decision provides that, on account of a conflict of evidence jabout when the men left the various jobs, th& circumstances shall be investigated by the Wellington Port Committee, and, pending that investigation, all men dismissed are to be reinstated.

The men found properly dismissed are to be replaced, on appropriate penalty, at the end of their jobs. SPELLING DECISION The Port Committee’s decision i'egarding spelling is to be observed. The decision was acceptpd by the watersiders at the monthly stopwork meeting today. The Port Committee agreement on spelling is that under which employers and unions eliminated the hour-about spelling and fixed times for leaving jobs prior to meal breaks and at night, and under which smoko periods are provided.
