Four More Positive Paralysis Cases
AUCKLAND, Thu. (Sp.).—The Dominion total of infantile paralysis cases has been raised to 151 by the diagnosis of four more suspect cases as positive. One is a girl from the Titirangi area, who was admitted to the Auckland Hospital yesterday, and the other is. at the Waikato Hospital. In addition to these, two of the four suspected cases in Auckland Hospital yesterday, were diagnosed today as positive. There now are 53 positive cases and two suspect.
The first suspect case from Taranaki for nine days was reported today. This was a girl, aged 4, from Manain. No Epidemic In NSW SYDNEY. Thu. (12.45 p.m.).—ln the first fortnight of this year 17 cases of infantile paralysis were notified to the New South Wales Health Department. An official of the department announced' that there was no indication of an epidemic. Of the 17 cases notified 10 were contracted in December, making the December total the highest for 1947. The total for 1947 was 92 cases, of which 63 were in the Sydney metropolitan area.
