Chiang’s New Plans To Shorten War
NANKING, Tue. (10.30 a.m.)—The speedy repairs of the railways south of Mukden and “the defence at all costs of Liaoning, Jehol, and the Charhar corridor,’’ were some of the points emphasised by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek at a military conference in Mukden, Reuters reports.
Reports of the conference scotch rumours circulating in Manchuria and North China -that the Nationalist forces were preparing a complete withdrawal from the north-west.
The reorganising of the Nationalist new Ist and 6th Armies into a new 7th was also mooted, in addition to broadening and training new armies in the use of modern weapons and technique. NEW TRAINING METHODS
It is reported that Chiang advocated sending strong' Government reinforcements to the areas of North Dairen and Port Arthur, and possibly isolate large Communist forces at present concentrated there.
At the army training conference at Nanking, which he attended today on his return from Mukden, Chiang promised top-ranking generals that new training plans would be adopted and that the Nationalist Army would be modernised in the near future.
During his recent inspection of the war fronts, Chiang is reported to have noticed the inadequacy of Nationalist training, and urged leaders today to “improve training to shorten the war.’’
