CAIRO, Tue. < 10'a.m.) —British Army headquarters announced that 42 Italians and 11 Somalis were killed in rioting at Mogadishu. Thirty-nine Italians, 44 Somalis, two police, one British and one native soldier were wounded. Order was restored the same evening. A curfew has been imposed and troops are patrolling the streets. British headquarters stated that the rioting began when pro-Italian Somalis, armed with spears, clubs and bows and arrows, tried to break a procession of the Somali Youth League. The statement added: “Italian inhabitants in Mogadishu are believed to have encouraged and participated in the organisation of the attack on the procession. “The Italians threw hand-grenades and fired shots. “Two companies of the King’s African Rifles restored order in two hours. “Some Italians and Somalis were arrested.’’
