Tourists Mixed Up In Two Riots
AUCKLAND, Tue. (Sp.)—lf you want any addresses in Central America, .Colombia or the Caribbean, consult Messrs L. J. Robinson, of Devonshire, and M. Calthorpe, of Yorkshire, who arrived in Auckland today by the Skymastcr Warana, in the course of a world tour. They were nearly mixed up in a riot in Panama City during the recent protest against continuing permission for the United States to hold military bases in the Republic. It was quite exciting, _ they said. Forty-nine people were injured. Riots were up their alley. They met another in Jamacia. There were not enough jobs for relief workers and tear-gas was used for the first time in the West Indies to break up the demonstrations.
“Latin American policemen all seem very short and stocky, and all carry their six-guns,” they said. Australia will be their next hop after New Zealand, and then their plans are a little indefinite. If they like New Zealand they will come back to settle.
