FEWER CRIMINAL CASES Criminal offences in the Whangarei district showed a decline for the year ended December 31, 1947, as compared with the previous year. Last year 462 criminal cases of all types were dealt with, as against 479 during 1946. BROADCASTING STUDIO Several; piles of all-steel sections, branded “U.S. Mobile Hos.,” are now occupying the section on the corner of Rust Lane and Alexander Streets. These sections, which can be bolted together, will house the broadcasting studio of the Whangarei radio station when it commences operating'. BERRIES, FLOWERS BY AIR Phenomenal crops of strawberries have been reported by Far Northern growers this summer, and, with recent rains, the season will be extended. One Awanui grower states that the fruit lias been in particular demand from Auckland visitors, and small consignments have been sent by air to the city.
