£SO Fine If No Tenancy Register
Provision for a £SO fine to be imposed on a landlord if he does not keep a tenancy register is made in the Fair Rents Amendment Act, passed Isst session. As the owner of the property must have the register in his possession, merely entering the required details in the rent book would not be sufficient, as this is in the hands of the tenant.
There have been no special forms issued or books printed, by the Department of Labour and, Employment for the assistance of the landlord, setting out the manner in which the book should be made up, but the department will discuss any obscure details with those who ask for them. The description of the premises required to be entered in the register will be the legal definition. When a transfer of the property is made, the register is to be transferred with it, and must be kept by the new owner.
