Object To Amalgamation

WELLINGTON, Tue. (P.A.). A statement condemning the rccommendaion cf the Royal Commission on Gaming and Racing that it should be amalgamated with the Levin Racing Club was made on behalf of the Foxton Racing Club after a meeting of the committee last night.

The Foxon Club was one of the oldest established racing clubs in New Zealand, it was in a sound financial position, and recent meetings had proved that it was receiving support from a very large section of the community, the statement said. Sufficient money was available to provide every amenity required on a modern racecourse as soon as building permits could be obtained. It was suggested that the commission had not investigated the position of the club fully, and value of clubs, such as Foxton, as a testing ground for horses. CARTERTON ALSO Amalgamation of the Carterton Racing Club with the Masterton Club, as proposed by the commission, is also to be opposed by the former club. A meeting of stewards at Carterton last night carried a resolution stating that the club desired to make a formal protest against amalgamation when the commission’s report came up for consideration by the New ’ Zealand Racing Conference. A committee was appointed to present. the club’s case.
