Scott, Pearson Put On 83

Pearson and Scott batted well when the game entered on its final day this morning. In the first hour, they added 59 runs with Scott overtaking Pearson when both batsmen had reached the 40s. Neither gave a chance and the only bowler who really pegged them down was McLean, who commanded respect throughout.

Pearson was out when Auckland was still one run behind. He snicked one from Challies and McLean juggled with the ball before holding the catch close in at fine slip. Two wickets were down for 92, with Scott on 48, when Wallace came to the wicket. He opened his score with a single and then swung Challies to the square-leg boundary and square-cut the next ball for three to bring the 100 up. WALLACE AGGRESSSIVE

He clouted O’Neill *for four to take his own score into double figures. Scott reached his 50 with three over-throws from a spasm of loose fielding by Reid. Wallace brightened up the game with another four from a full toss by Challies. Scott was out with the total at 123. Murray came on in place of Challies and knocked Scott’s leg stump out of the ground when the batsman endeavoured to turn the ball round the ;corner . j Taylor joined Wallace and this pair 1 batted quietly to lunch against the accurate attack of Murray and McLean. 1 Tindill conceded two byes off the j.last ball before the adjournment to re- ; cord the first extras of the innings and make the score 141 for three wickets. I Challies had taken two wickets for 45 runs and Murrav one for 15. WALLACE OUT Wallace was aggressive after lunch, but these tactics cost him his wicket within the first half hour. He lifted a ball from Murray into the longfield, and Dumbleton, fielding near the sight-screen, ran in for a simple catch. Taylor was going along quietly and he and Deas put Auckland 100 ahead.
