All This For £5
SYDNEY, Wed. (10 a.m.)— Three armed bandits kidnapped a hire-car driver at Centennial Park last night, drove to the suburb of Kensington, and tied him to a bed. They then took the car to the Arcadia Hotel, in Pitt Street, where they held up three employees. After threatening to shoot two hotel employees, the men escaped with £5. Meanwhile, the hire-car driver wriggled free of his bonds and found himself in the upper storey of a twostoried house. He jumped 15ft. to the roadway. ONE MAN WOUNDED As he ran to telephone the police, he met three constables in a police car. They set a trap for the returning bandits but, when challenged, the bandits ran. A constable fired two shots from his automatic and heard one man scream. The men made good their escape. All hospitals and doctors have been warned to watch for a man with the bullet wound. It is believed that the bandits meant to open or steal the hotel safe, but that the presence of hotel employees forced them to abandon the attempt.
