States To Operate Pacific Air Service

MELBOURNE, Wed. (11.30 a.m.)—lt is stated authoritatively that British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines, jointly owned by the Governments of Australia, Canada and New Zealand, has completed plans to take over the Aus-tralia-New Zcaland-San Francisco air service on April 21. privately-owned Australian National The service is now operated by the Airways, under charter to the Government, a company, which, at the time of commencement of the schedule. had no planes of its own. Some aviation authorities predict that the private company will fight the Government concern before the United States Civil Aeronautics Board for the right to continue the service when approval becomes due for renewal within the next quarter. It is known that Australian National Airways believes it has strong claims for the right to run the service, because British Commonwealth Pacific ; Airlines was granted a licence last ! year, only on condition that ANA carried out the actual operations.
