LONDON. Mon. (11.30 a.m.)— The skipper of an Italian steamer aground on the Goodwin Sands refuses to be rescued. The steamer, the Silvia Onorato (2327 tons), with a crew of 28 and two German stowaways, is stuck fast on the sands.
The captain has repeatedly refused offers by Kentish lifeboatmen to come out and rescue the crew although the vessel is being Severely buffeted in heavy seas. The skipper's last message to the lifeboatmen was: “My ship is my life. Ship go. me go.”
