Man Bitten By Spider
DARGAVILLE, Tue. (Sp.).—Bitten by a poisonous spider, Mr T. Martin, aged 40, of Te Kopuru, was admitted to the Northern Wairoa Hospital. The bite was inflicted when Mr Martin was dressing himself in a bach at Gink’s Gully on the West Coast beach on Friday. The wound was extremely painful. The condition of the victim is not serious, and lie was reported today to be improving. The spider was killed immediately. It was probably closely related to the katipo, but it was stated to show no sign of the red mark on the back which distinguishes New Zealand's only venomous insect. Regarded as one of the most deadly of the world’s venomous insects, the katipo is closely related to both the red-back spicier of Australia and the “black widow" of California.
