No Ban Imposed Yet On Northland Camps

So far no ban has been placed by the Health Department on children under 16 years of age pationising Northland motor camps. This morning the medical officer ot health (Dr J. L. Newman) said that he had received some inquiries regarding motor camping and he had dealt with the inquiries on an individual basis. Camping was hot to be encouraged because sanitary conditions at motoi camps generally left much to be desired. Unless the sanitary conditions were satisfactory there was bound to be some risk. Asked whether the motor camp ban, which extends as far north as Wellsford. would be applied in Northland, Dr Newman said that such a decision would either be made on instructions from flic department's head office or by him. with the department’s concurrence. He believed, however, -ffthat when parents learned of the Auckland ban, and with knowledge of other precautions to be taken, they would decide the question for themselves — against taking the children camping this summer. DISINFECTING SCHOOLS Inquiries this morning indicated that Whangarei school committees had not considered the question of disinfecting school buildings. Although unoccupied now, the buildings will be inhabited when the holidays finish and the Health Department gives permission for school resumption and it seems that as a precautionary measure against that time disinfection would be worth while. The question will probably be considered when school committees next meet.
