Senator On 'Son Francisco' Episode
CANBERRA. This Day
Sonalor Amour, in the Senate last night, replied to criticism of his recent trip abroad, and referred to what he called the "San Francisco episode." On September 24 Senator Abbott (Liberal) alleged in the House of Representatives that Senator Amour had become drunk in San Francisco and was removed from a plane.
Senator Amour said that when he joined the plane at San Francisco he took a match to light a cigarette. "I did that once in this Chamber; I have done that on many occasions—want of thought. "A passenger apparently became very excited. He told me to put out the light.
"When I told him not to get excited he charged at me. I put my arm up and pushed him back, as any other Australian would do.
“The captain of the plane told me he would not take me and put off my luggage.
"No policeman, as stated, interfered in any way. I was told I could join the next plane."
