Group-Captain A. H. Hely, of Melbourne, arrived by flyingboat in Auckland yesterday. A member of the RAF mission to Australia and New Zealand, he is here to consult the Air Department on matters concerning the mission in New Zealand. Before going to Wellington in about 10 days’ time, Group-Captain Hely will visit his parents Commander and Mrs H. McM. Hely, of Takapuna.
Mr William Phoenix Ogilvie, of Mt Albert, has died, aged 89. Mr Ogilvie was born in a burning hotel in Queen Street during one of the worst fires in Auckland's; history. The founder of Ogilvie’s Fashions Ltd. he retired from business some 27 years ago. He was a foundation member of the Baptist Tabernacle, of which he was a Sunday School teacher and elder for many years.
Mr G. PI. Shoreland. supervisor of Manual Training for the Auckland Education Boai'd, and Mr L. M. Hobbs, inspector of Technical Schools, Wellington, have been visiting the Far North. On Friday they inspected the manual training and domestic science facilities at the new Kaitaia Secondary School, in company with the headmaster (Mr A. W. Bird) and expressed themselves as favourably impressed with the good service being provided through these faciilties to young people of the district.
