Compton Fails To Surpass Hayward

To give Compton a chance of breaking Hayward’s record aggregate for the season Robins, in the match against South Africa, declared the South of England’s innings closed at the overnight total of 9 for 341 and followed on 169 runs behind. Compton, however, requiring 152, was out for 30. Scores: South England: Second innings, 199 (Mann 5 for 17, Rowan 5 for 83). South Africa: Second innings, 1 for 31. South Africa won by nine wickets. MCC: Second innings, 159 (Brown 56; Robinson 7 for 82). Yorkshire: Second innings, 205 (Hutton 107;'Heane 5 lor 34, Young 4 for 38). MCC won by 59 runs. North: Second innings, 7 for 260 dec. South: Second innings, 6 for 352 (E. Holmes 102 not out, Todd 90). South won by four wickets.
