1000 More Acres For Tobacco Crop
(P.A.) NELSON, This Day. Tobacco growers and farmers of the Nelson district who the annual meeting of the New Zealand Tobacco Growers’ Federation at Motueka pledged themselves to increase the production of leaf to the maximum in order to assist Britain’s dollar position by a reduction of importations for the Dominion’s needs. ..
Mr L. J. Schmitt, chairman of thp Tobacco Board, asked for an increase of 400 acres this year arid a further 1000 acres next year. The federation president (Mr F. A. Hamilton) said a committee had* been set up with the aim to put an additional 1000 acres of new land into tobacco production.
