Believes Indians Are Not' Ready
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Indians are not yet ready to govern themselves in the opinion of Mr A. D. Pyster who, until recently was deputy-superintendent of police in the Punjab Province. Accompanied by hts wife and two children, Mr Pyster arrived by air from Sydney yesterday to settle in New Zealand.
Mr Pyster said he was in charge of the police training school at Amritsar, where the rioting had been most serious.
He himself had been posted to the riot area, and could show photographs of occurrences in the city which would shock people. Most of the buildings in Amritsar had been razed to the ground. The rioting broke out at least, six months before the formation of Pakistan, said Mr Pyster. The Sikhs considered the division unfair and waged war against the Moslems. The feud developed even within the police ranks. After the British officers left, the police force in the Punjab was divided into two sections, one consisting of Moslems and the other Hindus. The Sikhs Were a sect of the Hindu religion. Several of his colleagues had remained in the area to watch developments unofficially.
