Road Surface 'Rapidly Disappearing'
"The bridge at the bottom of the i'on 1 is conv.ng to pieces and the metal surface is rapidly disappearing," stated Mr J. A. Coster, of Lovies Road Waipu. in a letter to the Whangarei County Council yesterday. Mr Coster had been served by 1 lie council with a notice requiring him to cut hack gorse from his road frontage. In replying to this he said that he trusted that the display of interest in this road meant that something would shortly be done to prevent it becoming unusable.
‘T note that I am warned against leaving roots in the watertable.” wrote Mr Ccster. “It is mainly due to complete absence of watertable that the road is in its present state.” “f am quite willing to do what the law requires of me towards the road’s upkeep. I hope to hear from you shortly that the council proposes to do its part,” concluded Mr Coster.
investigation was left to the county engineer (Mr K. W. King) and Cr H. E. Hewlett, in whose riding Mr Coster resides.
