(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Leslie Trevor Windle, 21, salesman. was charged before Mr Goulding, S.M.. with wilfully making false Income tax returns for the financial years ending March 31. 1944. 1945. 1946. According to figures produced by tlie prosecution Windle's returns of income for the three years in question totalled £1977/18/2. The department had assessed his income for the period at £5312/16/9. which meant that Windle had understated his income by '£3334/18/7. The defieienev in tax would bo £IOO3/18/9, It was stated that the major part of Windle’s income over the neriod came from the sale of second-hand cars. lie had begun operations In 1943 with a capital of £25 and his assets at March 31, 1946, wore assessed at £4709/16/1 Fines of £IOO were imposed In rospest of the charges concerning 1944 and 1945, and £SO for 19jG, a total of £250.
