Tree Planting In Whangarei Streets

Intending to plant more Whangarei streets with native trees, the Whangarei District Progressive Society, in conjunction with the Forest and Bird Protection Society, asked the Borough Council last night to name five streets in which the work should be done. . Last year William. Arthur. Douglas, Islington and Poto streets had been planted with trees' which were flourishing, the society stated. The two societies would provide the trees, the council to provide labour and protection. Last year the Progressive Society had procured timber for protection and if the council was not able to -supply timber this year it would again endeavour to do so.

Cost last year to the council had been about 35/- a tree, the engineer (Mr I. A. Cromie) told Cr S. J. Snow.

The question was referred to th parks committee.
