Butchers At Meat Works Still Strike
(Special.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Continuation of the strike o£ freezing works butchers at Westfield is beginning to cause concern among tine ]'a nr. ing com muni ty. Farmers are anxious to gel cattle to the works as scon as nossible to obviate taxing winter feed ffuncUily. Cue result of the continuation of the strike is that they are being forced to retain cattle because the company stopped buying a fortnight ago to prevent an accumulation of stock at the works after beef production was entirely stopped by the strike. Farmers will be hard hit if they have to continue grazing stock. Even if the strike is settled shortly, there will be an aftermath of several weeks’ congestion. An official explanation of the cause of the strike is unobtainable, although it is believed that alleged anomalies in the award is the basis.
