New Cuts In Whangarei

The first of a series of new electricity cuts for Whangarei was announced by the borough electrical engineer (Mr W. ,T. Dawson) this morning. When a rearrangement of the circuits has been completed, further amendments to the schedule at present in operation will be given. As from 4 o'clock this afternoon, the cuts to be made in the following area will be:—

Otaika Road. Raumanga Road. Maunu Road from Otaika Road corner to borough boundary, Te Mai Road. West End Avenue and Maunu rural area; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.. 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. An increase of half an hour in the afternoon disconnection of the previous schedule has been made by the alteration.

“The shortage of electricity has been aggravated by the cold weather as far as the North Auckland Power Board is concerned," said the engineer (Mr TR. Overton) this morning.

“It is causing many people to turn on electric radiators which the hoard finds it cannot possibly supply. An additional burden has also been imposed by the dairy type radiators. "We are asking consumers to cooperate with us as much as they can. hut we also have to use the authority given us by the electricity controller. “We have had to disconnect all electric radiators and water heaters not being used for essential purposes.’’ It had been found necessary to make alterations in keeping with the sudden changes in consumption, said Mr Overton. For the next week or two the Kamo and Hikurangi l-esidential areas would be disconnected between 5.30 and 6 p.m. instead of 6.15 and 6.45 p.m.
