Auckland Mothers Want To Know...
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. This Day. Auckland mothers are really letting their hair down about the power cuts. Low rumblings of discontent now all around the town are developing into an uproar.
Mrs Mary Dreaver. MLC, telegraphed Mr Semple: “Auckland mothers want to know why hotels, boardinghouses, restaurants and eating-houses are exempt from cuts in water-heating."
Mr Semple replied: “Sufficient water can be heated in small utensils for ail essential requirements, but this is not possible in establishments such as hotels and restaurants depending on electric supply. "Moreover, commercial water-heaters consume less than 1 per cent and domestic heaters more than 27 per cent of the total power used in the North Island for all purposes.” The mothers' reaction is awaited here with trepidation.
