Fifth Day Of Miners' Strike
(Special) HUNTLY, This Day. No coal was produced at the MacDonald mine yesterday for the fifth day in succession. The Glen Afton mine was idle for the second day. The trouble began on Monday when the MacDonald men held a stop-work meeting to discuss compensation payments lor some of the workers. They claimed that these had been held up.
The Northern Miners’ Union executive held a long meeting this afternoon t:o discuss the attitude of the MacDonald men. The secretary (Mr H. Hall) staled that the members of the Glen Afton and MacDonald branches would be asked to report for work as usual on Monday.
The production of more than 3500 tons of coal has been lost because of the men's refusal to return to work yesterday.
