Fire Damages Parked Truck
(Special)
KAITAIA, This Day.
Fire from an unknown cause seriously damaged a heavy six-wheeled articulated motor truck at Waipapakauri on Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. An equally unknown cause prevented complete destruction of the vehicle and its contents, the fire burning itself out after consuming all electrical wiring round the motor and part of the cab. The flames may have been smothered when the fire extinguisher inside the cab exploded from the heat of the fire.
Parked overnight outside the Waipapakauri hotel, the truck burned with nobody the wiser. The vehicle is owned by C. L. Innes and Co., Ltd., Whangarei, cordial manufacturers. Apart from the cab, bodywork remained undamaged, as did the full load of soft drinks. The truck was towed to Kaitaia for repair.
