Auckland Milk Supply Doubtful
(Special.) AUCKLAND. This Day. Failing a satisfactory reply to t.heir request that the Minister of Labour (Mr McLagan) should set up a tribunal to hear their claims for double time pay on Sundays, milk roundsmen in Auckland will not make retail deliveries tomorrow morning. An official of the Auckland Milk Roundsmen’s Union made this statement yesterday. He said three unsuccessful applications had been made to the Arbitration Court for inclusion in the award of double pay on Sundays. Although deliveries might not be made, the men would report to their factories as usual in the morning. A meeting of the union’s executive woulci be held this afternoon if any further developments took place. The Auckland Metropolitan Milk Board has made arrangements for (he large distributing companies to supply all milk shops with their requirements tomorrow.
If the roundsmen’s threat is carried out, 6000 to 7000 gallons of milk from a total retail supply of about 20.009 gallons will not be delivered. The balance is handled by independent vendors, most of whom will be serving their customers as usual. The board renewed its appeal for dairies'to remain open tomorrow until the public demand had been satisfied.
Arrangements had been made by the companies to ensure that hospitals and other institutions will obtain thennormal supplies.
