NEWS OF THE DAY
KAITAIA QUEEN CARNIVAL Active steps have been taken this week towards commencement of the queen carnival sponsored by the Kaitaia Swimming and Life-Saving Club, object of which will be to raise funds for a Kaitaia swimming baths ol Olympic standard. Both public services and sports interests, which will be sponsoring queens, have formed live carnival committees, and similar action is under way by the business houses and the Maori community. There has been some alteration in the selections of queens, but final nominations will be announced at a general meeting representing all committees which is to be held in the Mnngonni County Council chamber next Monday evening. It is hoped to open the carnival at the end of next week.
