Umawera
The monthly meeting of the Umawera Women’s Institute was held on January 21. Mrs Postlewaight presided. The motto was: “It is not square miles that make a country but square deeds,” and the roll call, a preserving hint. Competitions resulted: Thrift article, Mrs Wooster 1. Mrs Brewer 2; stamp collection. Mrs Beale 1, Mrs Gray 2; plum jam, Mrs Carman 1, Mrs Wooster 2; social competitions. Mrs Oliver 1, Mrs Lane and Miss Schultz in one competition. Mrs Beale won the other. Hostesses for the day were Mrs Reed and Mrs Carman.
The Umawera Women's Institute held a dance earlier in the month in aid of the Women’s Institute funds. Miss J. Postlewaight and partner won the novelty dance.
