Detriment To Northland

A very strong case, involving a saving in the distance and time taken in crossing the Tasman, had been established by a pubic meeting at Invercargill, said the president (Mr W. McKinnon) at a meeting of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce last night. The Invercargill Chamber of Commerce requested support for representations it was going to make. The distance from Auckland to Sydney by air was 1340 miles, it was stated.

The distance from Invercargill to Hobart was 960 miles.

“I am very much against the proposal.” said Mr J. F. Johnson. “There have been a number of concerted efforts to take the service away from Auckland.” He considered that it would be detrimental to Northland to have the flying-boat service taken away from its present Dominion terminal. The letter was received.
